Ariane Mariane is a German fiber artiste living and working in Paris.
Formed in architecture and graphical design, she creates wall-hangings, sculptures, home decor, wearable art and accessories in a slow design process, mostly by wet felting and free motion stitching techniques.
Through her art wok labeled “Ariane Mariane – Art Textile / Paris”, she erases the limits between art and wearable. Worked out as examples of contemporary fiber art, her unique pieces are always perfect to be displayed on a wall or a shelf. Most of the time they are also thought to interact with the human body. They transform and adorn, spread protection and well-being. Unique bodies transform awesome fiber art paintings into sculptures and textile sculptures intact with human shapes.
Offering one of a kind wearable art to unique individuals, in highest quality, is as important to the artiste as respecting the environment. Only natural fibers, foremost wool and silk, are employed and entirely felted by hand in an ancestral technic: just some hot water and handicraft are used to merge the fibers together. Incrusted silk is often hand painted or dyed by the artist. Finished felt creations are also hand painted and free motion embroidered. Ariane sees herself as a mixt media fiber artist. The only limit is her imagination.
After having been rejected by the French social artist assurance because her work may be functional, Ariane made it her personal combat to show the world that art should be defined by the process. Making art is a way of thinking and acting no matter if the piece is functional or not.
Her wearable art is always unique and original. Slow designed in a timeless and elegant style it’s made to embellish everyday life.
Fancy, playful and often bright, Ariane wants to spread joy and make smile through contemporary fiber for unique bodies.
